Verneda Lorine “Lorraine” Pender, 76, of Pitkn, LA passed away December 20, 2021 at 1:31am. She was born to Rudolph and Myrtle Reid on September 8, 1945, and she grew up in the Reids Community with her two sisters, Maude Evelyn and Sherlene. She graduated from Fairview High School in 1963, and married her husband of 52 years, Allen Ray Pender, on December 1, 1963.
For years, Lorraine worked at Ft. Polk as a certified nursing assistant, and raised her four children: Anita, Allen Ray, Jr., Bryan, and Tammey. She took great pleasure in being the community’s go-to seamstress, playing practical jokes, and perfecting her recipes for pumpkin roll, chicken spaghetti, and punchbowl cake. Lorraine’s home was known as “Grand Central Station” because everyone felt comfortable and welcomed. She taught Sunday School at Six Mile United Pentecostal Church for many years, and she later attended Sugartown Pentecostal Church with her family.
Lorraine was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. When she was forty-six years old, she began pursuing a degree in nursing. Upon receiving that degree, she completed her nursing career at St. Mary’s Residential Home in Alexandria, LA. She was the perfect blend of compassion and warmth, and she loved the children she served.
She is survived by her two daughters, Anita Deason & Tim of Pitkin, LA and Tammey Monceaux & Clyde, Jr. of Pitkin, LA; two sons, Allen Ray Pender, Jr. & Penny of Kansas City, KS and Bryan Keith Pender & Shari of Milton, FL; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Ray Pender, Sr.; two sisters, Maude Evelyn Royer and Wauna Sherlene Smith; and her parents, Dolph & Myrtle Reid.
The services to celebrate the life of Verneda Lorraine Pender will be held at Sugartown Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 5-10pm for friends and community members and will resume from 9am on Wednesday, December 22 until time of service.
