It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roland LeRoy Petty Jr., who left this world on May 7, 2026, at the age of 67. Born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on October 14, 1958, JR made his mark as a skilled electrician in the construction industry, but it was his role as a cherished family member that truly defined him.
JR loved his family deeply and took immense joy in being an uncle to his nieces and nephews. He had a knack for teasing his loved ones just enough to keep things lively, always balancing his quiet and observant nature with a spark of humor that lit up family gatherings. His cleverness and intelligence shone through in everything he did.
A lover of all things unique, JR enjoyed going "junkin'" to find hidden treasures, especially his beloved bronze statues. His spirit of adventure and appreciation for the quirky will be missed by all who knew him.
JR is survived by his brother, Howard Petty and Robin of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Tina Smith and Phillip of Oklahoma City, OK, Diana Wright of Rosepine, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
JR was preceded in death by his parents, Roland LeRoy Petty, Sr. and Martha Jane Cooper Petty; grandparents, Ernie and Viola Cooper, Lee and Martha Petty; brother-in-law, Dale Wright.
JR's family will hold a graveside memorial ceremony on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Dale, Oklahoma Cemetery to celebrate his life and the memories they created together. They invite those who loved JR to join them in honoring a man who knew how to bring joy and laughter into the lives of those around him.
Rest in peace, JR. Your love, wit, and charm will forever be remembered.
