Norman Ray “Doc” Calcote

Norman Ray “Doc” Calcote, 72, of the Providence Community, LA, passed from this life on Sunday, September 12, 2021.  Visitation will be Thursday, September 16 from 5-8pm at Chaddick Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be Friday, September 17 at 10am at Chaddick Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Providence Cemetery.  Rev. Vic Warrick will officiate. Doc proudly served his country as a Marine in Vietnam. After he returned, he worked in the woods with his father cutting and hauling pulpwood. Doc had several different jobs in his career. He worked offshore with Rowan Companies as well as for the power line companies Red Simpson and Kulaga Construction. Doc worked in the logging business, which is where he worked with M.C. Ashworth, who became his best friend later in life. The job he enjoyed the most was running bulldozers and control burning the woods with C&C Dozer. Doc was able to work side-by-side with his brother, and sidekick, Marvin Calcote. An avid outdoorsmen, Doc enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working his cows. He took great pride in having a healthy, good-looking herd. He could spend all day outside checking on his cows, horses, and chickens. Before his health became too bad, he would be at McKee’s every day at lunchtime with his brother Marvin, solving the world’s problems. Doc was very proud of all his children and grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over fifty-two years, Shirley Moses Calcote of the Providence Community, LA; sons, Wayne Calcote and Becky of DeRidder, LA; Todd Calcote and Christy of the Providence Community, LA; Shane Calcote and Danielle of Rosepine, LA; Shon Calcote and Tosha of DeRidder, LA; Kevin Kemp and Christie of Rosepine, LA; brothers, Marvin Calcote of the Providence Community, LA; Don Calcote and Jane of the Providence Community, LA; sisters, Margie Kulaga and Joey of Rosepine, LA; Kim Garnett of the Providence Community, LA; Pam Dent of DeRidder, LA; Debbie Forbes and Tony of Tool, TX; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, RC “Sherd” and Mollie Calcote of the Providence Community, LA; brother Ronnie Calcote of the Providence Community, LA.
