James Michael "Mike" Iles

James Michael "Mike" Iles, 79, of DeRidder, LA passed away Monday, October 12, 2026. Visitation will be Monday, October 19 from 5-8pm at First Baptist Church of DeRidder, and Tuesday, October 20 from 10am until time of service. Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 20 at 1pm at First Baptist Church of DeRidder. Private family interment will follow at Sugartown Cemetery. Rev. Nelson Santa Ana will officiate.

Mike is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cindy Iles of DeRidder, LA; son, Steven Iles &Teresa of Golcanda, IL; grandchildren, Ashley & Troy, Jessica & Alex, Alyssa & Lucas; great-grandchildren, Chancelynn, Vander, Rezayn, Eli, Tucker, Ellanor, Harvey; first cousin, Betty Bullock & Jerry of Dallas, TX; and a host of beloved students, coworkers and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Joy Iles; brother, Jack Iles; grandparents; his Aunt Polly, Uncle George, and Uncle Jimmy; and granddaughter, Chris Dee.

Mike was a proud member of the DeRidder High Class of 1965. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at LSU, where he graduated in 1970. He later received Masters and Specialist degrees at McNeese. He thoroughly enjoyed going to school and teaching school.

Mikes’s natural abilities and long-lasting influence were anchored in the “Fruit of the Spirit.” These were character traits that grew in Mike’s life through the work of the Holy Spirit that resided in him. They were: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, & self-control.

Thy loving kindness is better than life. Proverbs 63:13  

These words from the Bible made more sense during Mike’s last two days.

God’s presence, mercy, steadfast love, and Heaven mattered more and grew sweeter. This was a great comfort. It can be so for you, too.
