Gerald Lynn Murray, 72, passed away on June 10, 2025. Memorial service will be Saturday, June 14 at 11am at Rosepine United Pentecostal Church. Pastor Paul Floyd will officiate.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Tina (Perkins) Murray, and his daughters Rebecca (Murray) Kinnibrugh and husband Kelly, Maranda (Murray) Hopper and husband Jesse. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Vivian (Perkins) Wyatt and husband Ty, brothers James Mark Murray and Jody Murray, sister-in-law Brenda Murray, brother-in-law Tony Perkins and wife Carolyn, and brother-in-law Reason Garfield Perkins.
Gerald was a proud grandfather to Tyler Kinnibrugh and wife Chazeley, Kelsey Obeck and husband Tyler, Trysten Hopper, and Rylen Hopper. He was a beloved great-grandfather to Levi Kinnibrugh and Kase Kinnibrugh. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply.
Gerald was loved by many and affectionately known by several nicknames: “Murray,” “Whirlwind,” “Ironman,” and “JR” on the CB radio—but his favorite was “Ol’ Peep.”
He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything, and he took great pride in watching them grow and achieve their goals. Gerald was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, and all wildlife. He found immense joy in building and creating in his shop, where his extraordinary skills as a builder and self-taught engineer shone through—there was truly nothing he couldn’t make. He designed and built numerous custom street rods, 4x4’s, and custom toys for the kids over the years, each one a testament to his craftsmanship, creativity, and attention to detail. He also loved gardening and generously shared everything he grew.
Though he carried a stoic presence, Gerald had a playful side—he loved to dance, sing, and joke around with friends and family. He held close the fond memories made with his and Tina’s lifelong best friends, Carlos and Betty Jo Hall, and Dave and Bo Ayrault. As well as Kent & Marion Hampton.
Gerald was preceded in death by his mother, Dura Rebecca (Marks) Murray; his father, James Murray; his mother-in-law Wanda (Hall) Perkins; his father-in-law Butch Perkins; his sister, Linda Light; his brother, Kenneth Murray; his sister, Pam Morris; his sister-in-law Tracy Perkins.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his medical team at Houston Methodist. Through their selfless service—marked by dignity, excellence, and unwavering dedication—they not only allowed Gerald to pass peacefully with his loved ones by his side, but also gave him many more years of quality life that he otherwise would not have had. For that, his family is forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers please consider a heartfelt note or card with your favorite memory of Gerald.
